The All Progressive Congress has refused to accept and believe that it lost the Osun West senatorial by-election to the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, last Saturday.
The PDP’s candidate, Ademola Adeleke, won the election by a landslide, claiming 9 of 10 LGAs in the constituency.

Join The Moving Train : Water Theraphy
Drinking water is of immense benefit to one’s health. Apparently, we are even told to drink eight glasses of water everyday. While that has not been proven scientifically to the best of my knowledge, there are plenty reasons to increase your water intake. Guess what? Increasing it is so simple and cheap compared to other fluid substitutes!
Fluid is lost from our bodies in a number of ways ranging from sweat, urine, stool to even breathing; and all these losses need to be replaced for the proper functioning of the body.
Drinking water regularly can help maintain your body fluid balance. The body needs fluid for effective discharge of functions like digestion, body temperature maintenance, circulation, nutrient transportation among others. Water is thus an effective material for this to be achieved. About 60% of the body is composed of water. This is why when you’re low on fluids, the brain triggers thirst.
Drinking water further helps to purify the colon which makes it easier to absorb nutrients; especially drinking water immediately you wake up in the morning.
Water also helps in the control of calories. Yes, drinking a lot of water can be a weight-loss theraphy and can be added to your regimen. This is because it can be substituted for beverages with higher calories. Drinking water also helps build one’s metabolism.
For the best skin care solution at little or no cost, try drinking more water. Water helps the skin to look good by purging toxins out of the body of which the resulting effect is a glowing skin.
Water further helps in increasing the production of new blood and muscle cells. In addition to that, water helps maintain normal bowel function which prevents constipation.
Finally, do not wait for your body to send a thirst signal to your brain before you drink water. Cultivate the habit of drinking water every morning immediately you wake up. It is a habit that will give far more benefits to the body at virtually no cost.

Cultivating The Culture Of Saving
In our quest for financial freedom, every single naira matters. The habit of saving has grown lax in our present day. Savings is a culture that should be imbibed even at a young age. The “piggy-bank” method of savings by kids should be embraced. I’ll be guiding you on the ways this habit can be formed and I bet you, the reward cannot be overemphasized.
This journey you are about to undertake is not going to be easy. It would entail hard-core discipline. There should be a consciousness in you that your wants and needs can never be fulfilled at once. Trying to satisfy all will never allow you to save.
It is necessary to have a budget and strictly stick to it. Having a budget will help you plan better and save better. More importantly, a budget will help you cut down the expenses that are not necessary.
There is need to ascertain whether you are spending more than you are earning. This goes to say that you should know your income and expenses. This will guide you in knowing how much will go into savings.
Remember to keep track of your spending with continuous evaluation. If you have spent more than your budget, don’t fret. Work harder instead to minimize the spending so it doesn’t occur regularly. Reserve some for emergencies and contingencies.
Before you begin your savings journey, have a target in mind. This will help keep you focused and motivated.
The worst mistake people do is to borrow money to spend. Strive to be debt-free. If you cannot afford it, do not buy it. Exceptions can be made though, with regard to health and other emergencies. Notwithstanding, strive to be debt-free.
Like my friend would always say, “Beautiful things will never finish in the market!”. Tell yourself that the next time you see that Louis Vuitton bag or Chris Louboutin shoe you have dreamt of adding to your numerous collection of bags and shoes. More trendy bags and shoes will still come up. It is fashion and it evolves everyday.
It is necessary to imbibe a savings culture. The power of savings cannot be overemphasized; make every naira you spend count!
The Vow
I think it was her smile. Or maybe it was the come-hither look reserved for me. Now I remember clearly, it was the way she called my name-like it was the best name ever. That was what drew me to her; I was pulled by an invisible string.
She was smart, beautiful with killer curves; but I had no business admiring her, bound by the band on my finger. A band that forever tied me to another. The ring shone even brighter when I slipped it on my finger as I left her hotel before dawn. It was a dalliance that formed a pleasurable part of my day; the unpleasurable part was the look on my wife’s face when I walked into the house. I pushed the guilt away.
I am a Christian, I knew in my heart I wanted to keep my vows; but the flesh ruled against my principles with all its might. It was my only guilty pleasure; a way to forget the sham of marriage I had. Even with that thought in mind, I struggled trying to replace my secretary’s image with that of my wife.
She was hot while my wife was ice-cold. Her stare was glorious while my wife’s was blank-dead. There was always something to talk about with her while my wife and I had silence for company. And the sex was… Stop the comparison, my mind begged, she was not always that cold! At least, be true to yourself!
What was I doing? Right there, the truth hit me right in the face.
In that moment I knew, I didn’t think again. It was the way I talked with her, the overly friendly glance at the newest member of the company. It was in the way I forgot to put on my ring; sometimes on purpose because I loved the attention. It was in the way I did not mention the new appointment of my female secretary to my wife; which birth the lies.
It was the late nights kept; for the sake of work, I told myself. Thinking back, I remembered the birthdays of my wife forgotten without apologies. Some would say my marriage was one made in heaven- beautiful wife and adorable children. A boy and a girl, perfect combination! And they were right, we were a perfect family. The picture frame on my work desk, which I held in my hands portrayed that-the Paris trip with happy memories- and I was about losing them.
I remember the tears she cried when she pleaded that work took me away from her. She needed me when her mother died but I was working to put food on our table. I was too busy to offer a hug. She begged me to try just a little. I should have listened, I should have; even when she bought a cake on her birthday and addressed it to herself telling my kids it was their father’s gift to her, which made me a super-hero that day. I later got her an expensive watch which produced a robotic “thank-you”, leading to another war episode with me shouting about her ingratitude.
Walking back home from work, I asked for strength to begin anew. I had killed her love by my actions and the little things I ignored that mattered the most. All that was going to change! I wanted to be the man that she smiled at with a heart filled with happiness. Most of all, I wanted to be that man she said “I do!” eight years ago. The man who would never break his vow.
The sun shun brighter today. This calming peace settled within me. In my heart, I knew I never wanted to be any where else but home. But then, burning at the back of my mind was the question; was I too late?
Ladies Only: Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Pelvic inflammatory Disease (PID) is an infection of the organs of the female reproductive system, including the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries and cervix. This infection can be caused by many bacteria types; however it is commonly acquired during unprotected sex. Less commonly, however, bacteria can enter one’s reproductive tract anytime the normal barrier the cervix creates is disturbed- it can occur after miscarriage, childbirth or even abortion.
The development of PID can further be necessitated by the spread of a sexually transmitted disesase (STDs). This goes to say that young women who are sexually active with multiple sex partners stand a greater risk of contacting the disease.
Young ladies are not exempt from this as studies have shown that PID is most common in women between the ages 15 to 24.
Signs and symptoms include; pain in the lower abdomen and pelvis, vaginal discharge producing unpleasant odor, intense pain and bleeding during intercourse, presence of chills with fever, difficult and painful urination, abnormal severe bleeding during menstrual cycle, among others. Sometimes, the symptoms could be mild or none at all.
It is very common and its consequence is highly detrimental. If not treated, it can lead to ectopic pregnancy (where scar tissus from the infection prevent the fertilized egg from implanting on the uterus through the fallopian tube; often resulting in life threatening bleeding that would require immediate medical attection), infertility (the inability to become pregnant; the higher you have PID, the higher your risk of infertility), chronic pelvic pain (leading to severe pain during ovulation and intercourse) as well as turbo-ovarian abscess (collection of pus in the uterine tubes and ovaries leading to the development of a life threatening infection).
Please seek urgent medical care if symptoms like severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, high fever or foul smelling vaginal discharge persists. Whenever all these and more occurs or become noticed, all sexual activities should be stopped.
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is real. Self medication is dangerous. Ignorance is not an excuse. More awareness should be created as to its symptoms and treatment. Tell a friend to tell a friend!
Just Ahead Splat
There was a cartoon I saw a long time ago in a print media. It was a depiction of a man who was on a quest for success. He asked which way and the one from whom direction was sought, replied and said it was just ahead splat! The splat that was depicted here was a muddy pit. The man walked on in confusion and finally gave up.
It was comical in a way but sadly, it is the summary of our lives in general. Sometimes, we struggle and try so hard, that the next thing is to give up when we encounter splats in our way. splats, in this context, refers to the disappointments and roadblocks encountered on our way to success.
I always use Thomas Edison as my mentor in perseverance. He failed and kept trying till he got it at the one thousandth time. Rephrasing this, he hit Splat not once but nine hundred and ninety-nine times before he shouted “Eureka!”. Wow! That is something unimaginable and a true test of holding and fighting on.
Is there a mountain you are facing that is stopping you from attaining the height you seek? Hold on! It could be the Splat just before your desired destination.
What is that challenge that has caused a hole that seems to widen each time you take a closer step to your dreams? Don’t give up! You cannot afford to, not when your success is just ahead! Keep fighting and pressing on!
Always remember it is always going to get tougher as you reach the finish line. The splats are a constant- they are always going to be around. Now, you know they are just obstacles, keep it up and even intensify efforts.
The next time you think of throwing in the towel, think of Thomas Edison. Failures are just painful lessons on how not to do it. It is not an end in itself. Thomas, through his failures, learnt nine hundred and ninety nine wrong ways of not doing it. That’s a lesson he would always remember.
This is not just an ordinary article. It is a charge! Go for that abandoned dream or project and resurrect it again. Kill the fear today and start doing something to achieve your set target. And in due time, the splat would give way for the fulfillment of your dreams.
